Nikolay M. Sirakov, Ph.D.

Dr. Sirakov has earned his B.S. and Master degrees from the School of Mathematics and Informatics Sofia University in 1983, and his Ph.D. degree in Mathematics/CS in 1991 from Center of Mathematics Computer Science and Mechanics-Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). He has worked for Institute of Mechanics and Biomechanics-BAS until 1999 as a research fellow and Associate Professor, CVRM-Instituto Superior Tecnico Portugal 1993/1994 and 1998-2000 under EU and NATO research projects. He taught lectures for Technical University of Sofia, Transport University-Bulgaria, Northern Arizona University 2001-2004. Since 2004 he is with Department of Computer Science and Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M University – Commerce. Dr. Sirakov’s research interests fall in Active Contours development, Geometric and Semantic Features extraction, Classification and Recognition, 3D Reconstruction and Visualization. The recent areas of application of his expertise are automatic weapons identification with the help of ontology, automatic skin lesion features extraction and skin cancer identification. In the above mentioned field and applications he has published 100 papers and co-authored in two books. He is reviewing for a number of journals and symposiums.
