Lucy Pickering, Ph.D.
Professor in the Literature & Languages department and director of the Applied Linguistics Laboratory housed in the department.
Her specializations include the development of spoken corpora and corpus linguistic analysis for applications to natural language processing. In 2007, she received a sub-contract from the University of Georgia to produce a prosodic analysis of a corpus of language data provided by ETS. Results from this project have appeared in the Modern Language Journal (Kang, Rubin & Pickering, 2010).
In 2008 she co-authored a paper using the Michigan Corpus of Academic Spoken English (MICASE) an open source corpus available from the University of Michigan (Pickering & Byrd, 2008.)
In 2009 she was Co-PI on a Language and Literacy Initiative Funding Project from Georgia State University and worked with the Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access (CATEA) at Georgia Institute of Technology to create a corpus of language in the workplace.
