Chester began his career in higher education as a Hall Director at Longwood College in Farmville, VA. From there, he went to Appalachian State University, again working as a Hall Director while he completed his MA in Student Development. He worked as an Area Coordinator at Catawba College and Elon College, then entered the PhD program at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro as a full-time student. He earned his degree in 1995 and joined the A&M-Commerce Counseling faculty in August of that year.
Chester’s “calling card” is his dedication to serving the Department, the University, and the Counseling profession. Here are some highlights:
He has presented and published on several Counseling-related topics. However, his primary interests are in Career Development, particularly career transitions, and in adult ADHD. On a personal note, Chester is married to Julia Robinson, Director of Curriculum, Special Programs, and Grants for Commerce ISD. They have two children. Mac, 15, a Commerce High student is active in UIL academics, band, and athletics. Maggie, 8, attends A.C. Williams and loves dancing, swimming, and socializing. They are members of First United Methodist Church – Commerce where Julia sits on the Foundation Board and Chester chairs the Personnel Committee.
