The Unemployment Compensation Insurance is an employer-funded insurance program that helps workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own. It provides temporary financial help to qualified individuals, based on their previous earnings, while they are looking for other work. Not everyone who applies receives benefits. All benefit determinations are made by the Texas Workforce Commission. The Texas Workforce Commission webpage provides information on applying for unemployment benefits.
All faculty members are covered by Workers' Compensation Insurance. If a faculty member sustains an accidental injury or occupational disease while working, Workers' Compensation pays for medical expenses and, in some cases, for lost wages. A faculty member who is injured on the job must report the injury to his or her department head/supervisor immediately even if the injury does not appear serious. All accidents must be reported within 30 days of occurrence.
Visit the ETAMU Workers' Compensation webpage or email HR.Leave@tamuc.edu for more information and reporting forms.
The Employee Wellness Program is designed to enhance the holistic well-being of our faculty and staff and to reduce lifestyle-related issues that affect health and work productivity. This voluntary program provides health education, university-sponsored physical fitness activities, services and support to encourage our employees to live healthy and sustainable lifestyles. Wellness Release Time (WRT) is a university-sponsored program designed to offer full-time employees 30 minutes three times per week of paid time off during the workweek to participate in exercise and fitness activities.
Visit the Employee Wellness website or email wellness@tamuc.edu for more information about wellness program offerings.
NOTE: Faculty members already have flexible schedules, but are still welcome and encouraged to participate in the WRT program.
Faculty can review and update most payroll information including pay slips, direct deposit and W-4 withholding in Workday. Tax forms are also available in Workday.

The university offers several retirement plans. All employees are automatically enrolled in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) pension plan on the first day of employment. Employees who are department heads, faculty, or in certain professional positions may elect to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) as an alternative to TRS. There is a one-time opportunity to choose between TRS and ORP. Employees may elect ORP on the first day of employment in an ORP eligible position (initial ORP Eligibility Date), with an additional 90 calendar days to make their election (ORP Election Period). Once a retirement program choice is made it cannot be changed. These two types of retirement plans are suitable for different individual needs, so faculty members should make the decision very carefully after considering both plans in light of personal circumstances.
Both mandatory retirement plans (TRS and ORP) are partially funded by the A&M System. Regardless of which plan they join, employees may also participate in the voluntary Tax Deferred Account (TDA) and/or Texa$aver Deferred Compensation (DCP) plans, which allow them to save for retirement on a tax-deferred basis.
Visit the A&M System Retirement Programs website and/or contact HR.Benefits@tamuc.edu for further information about the TRS and ORP plans and the voluntary tax-deferred savings plans.
