Project Description
The project is trying to identify the weapons using different kinds of recognition technologies. The problem for real time, automatic weapons detection and finding of humans carrying weapons is a subject of great interest for national and international security agencies. The practical utility of a system capable of identifying and recognizing weapons without human intervention at runtime is obvious: potential uses could range from luggage screening at airports to surveillance camera monitoring of businesses, schools, and other public places, but could range as far as battlefield analysis (for example by discriminating between weapon-bearing and non-weapon-bearing humans). Both constraints formulated above impose the requirements for quicker solution of the problem in a time period of a second or two without user interactions.
The project aims to develop a system capable of automatic identification of a firearm/small arm carried by individuals in public areas. The purpose is to assess the threat that may be posed by these individuals to the public.
