Get Ready to be an A&M-Commerce Transfer Student!

1) Consider Majors That Interest You!

Begin to consider what field of study/areas of interest/degree program/major you want to pursue at A&M-Commerce. Take some time to research our degree programs!

3) Explore Admissions Requirements!

East Texas A&M University is committed to making the transfer process as smooth as possible. To meet automatic admission requirements as a transfer student, you must have at least 12 transferable hours (excluding developmental coursework) and a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher on all transferable coursework.

Transfer students who do not meet the admissions criteria above, are encouraged continue at your current school or attend a community college until you have the transfer hour and GPA.  All students are eligible to appeal the admissions decision. Students will be notified in their admissions letter the required documents needed to complete the appeal process. International Students

An International student is any degree-seeking student holding a non-immigrant student visa. Residents of foreign countries who wish to apply must meet the transfer requirements.  Students with less than 21 transfer hour must submit and meet SAT/ACT score requirements, provide proof of financial support and submit TOEFEL scores of at least 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT) or 79 (IBT). Please visit our International Student Admissions website for additional information. East Texas A&M University accepts scores from the SAT (Math and Critical Reading scores only) or ACT (Composite score) and our students are not penalized for taking the test several times. We accept your best score for admission to the university.

4) Transfer Scholarships!

Transfer students can be considered for two types of transfer scholarships, which include the General and Phi Theta Kappa programs.

We offer scholarship programs which ensure that each student (international or out of state resident), who receives a competitive academic scholarship of at least $1000, will receive an out of state tuition waiver*. Students who begin in the spring semester, may not qualify for this tuition waiver. Funding is limited, so do not delay! You must be admitted and meet criteria to be considered for these and other scholarships.

6) Consider your Financial Aid Options!

Students interested in applying for financial aid will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The application period begins on January 1 of each year for the following academic year. As soon as possible after January 1st, students are encouraged to apply for financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Students who are not able to complete the FAFSA due to their immigration status may be able to file the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA), which is accepted at East Texas A&M University and can be found here Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). As soon as possible after January 1st, students are encouraged to apply and funding is limited, please apply early!

7)  Apply For Scholarships!

Until you are admitted, we encourage you to apply for all outside scholarships for which you qualify. A&M-Commerce provides a list of Outside Scholarships for your use. We also encourage you to research other scholarship offers by using the following resources:

As soon as you are admitted to A&M-Commerce, we strongly recommend that you complete and submit an A&M-Commerce scholarship application which will be located in your myLEO account as soon as you are accepted. 8) Get Vaccinated!

Effective October 1, 2013, Texas Senate Bill 62 (SB 62), addendum to SB 1107, requires all students (under age 22) entering an institution of higher education (public and private) to either receive a vaccination against bacterial meningitis or meet certain criteria to decline the vaccination 10 days before they first day of the semester. We use the services of Magnus Health to collect, review, and securely store all student documents pertaining to the meningitis vaccine. Magnus Health’s SMR (Student Medical Record) is a web-based solution that will allow us to manage the vast number of vaccination records that we have to collect to comply with the new state law. A $10 processing fee payable to: Magnus Health SMR (debit or credit card required).

Please visit your healthcare provider, your local health clinic or a local pharmacy to learn about options for receiving the vaccination.

Apply as a Transfer Student!

1) Apply Now!

Complete the admission application at www.applytexas.org and list A&M-Commerce as your school of choice. The ApplyTexas application is one application for any public 2-year or 4-year institution in the state of Texas. A&M-Commerce does not charge an application fee.

A non-refundable $60 enrollment fee will be charged to your account upon enrollment in your first semester at A&M-Commerce.

2) Send your Official Transcripts!

In order to have your application for admission processed, you must submit an official (sealed copy) of your transcripts from each institution you currently attend or have previously attended.

For faster delivery, you may check to see if your previous/current academic institution(s) can submit an electronic version of your transcript to the Admissions Office.  We accept SPEEDE and Escript-Safe electronic transcripts.

Now that You’re Admitted!

1) Confirm your Financial Aid and Scholarship Applications are Complete!

Check your myLEO email account to receive messages regarding your status.  You will receive award notifications with directions on how to accept your offers, missing information requests and other pertinent financial aid and scholarship information.  If you are not receiving email updates, please contact FAO_Web@tamuc.edu.

All admitted students are strongly encouraged to complete and submit an A&M-Commerce scholarship application which is located in your myLEO account. For more information visit the A&M-Commerce Scholarship webpage.

2) Apply for Residential Living!

One of the most exciting aspects, and an integral part of the university experience, is the opportunity to reside in one of our campus residential living and learning facilities. Studies suggest that students who reside on campus generally perform better academically, as opposed to students residing off campus.

Please visit the Department of Residential Living and Learning where you may download the housing application and access additional residence life resources.

3) Upload your Meningitis Vaccination Documentation!

4) Register for and Attend Orientation!

The Office of New Student Orientation welcomes incoming freshman and transfer students to East Texas A&M University each semester. The purpose of New Student Orientation is to provide students the opportunity to:

  • Meet with and receive advising from Success Coaches
  • Register for classes
  • Acquire Student ID card and parking permit
  • Pay tuition and fees
  • Learn about services and resources available to enhance success
  • Meet other admitted students

Orientation is an important and mandatory step in becoming a part of the A&M-Commerce family. All new students (freshman and transfer) attending the main campus in Commerce are required to participate in New Student Orientation. Orientation is offered multiple times during the summer months before the start of the fall semester. For spring students, Orientation is offered late in the fall prior to the spring semester.
