Dr. Simmons is a 1988 graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce (highest honors) with majors in Mathematics and English.  She also has degrees from the University of North Texas and the University of Oklahoma.  Her research interests include finite hyperbolic geometry, coding theory, and cryptology.  She is a nationally-known scholar in the history of mathematics and has received numerous NSF grants in support of travel and education for students.  In addition to her current title, she has served as Department Head of Mathematics and Dean of the College of Mathematics and Science.
