Mathematics Student Awards
Excellent mathematics students deserve recognitions and awards. To encourage students pursuing a math degree and increase the pride and support of math students, the Mathematics Department offers the following awards to recognize outstanding mathematics majors and graduate students.
- Aslan Outstanding Graduate of Graduate Mathematics Students: Factors to be considered for this award includes GPA, teaching, graduate comprehensive exams, project or thesis, conference attendance, conference presentations and publications.
- Aslan Outstanding Graduate of Undergraduate Mathematics Students: Factors to be considered for this award include GPA, Involvement in the math club, conference attendance, conference presentations, undergraduate research projects.
- L-3 Communications Excellence in General Mathematics: Factors to be considered for this award include mathematics major, evidence of commitment to math major, at least 20 credit hours of mathematics major requirements with an average of 3.0 or better at TAMUC, overall GPA 3.0 or higher, involvement in the math club, conference attendance, conference presentations, undergraduate research projects, service to the university and math department.
- Excellence in Mathematics Education: 7-12 Math Major, evidence of commitment to the 7-12 math major, at least 20 credit hours of mathematics major requirements with an average of 3.0 or better at TAMUC, overall GPA 3.0 or higher, involvement in the math club, conference attendance, conference presentations, undergraduate research projects, service to the university and math department.

The following procedure is used to select award winners:
- Nominations are made by all faculty members in April of each year;
- Recommendations will be made by an Award Committee;
- Winners will be approved by the full-time mathematics faculty;
- Awards will be announced and presented at the annual picnic of the Department of Mathematics in May of the year. Each winner will receive a certificate and $500.
