Faculty Development Leave (2023 - 2024)

Deadline to Submit Proposals - December 1st by 4:30 p.m. (If the date falls on a weekend, the due date will be the following Monday by 4:30 p.m.)

Faculty Development Leave for research and writing is a method used to enhance university instruction and research. In 1967, the Texas legislature recognized the importance of faculty development leave, adopted legislation, and set forth guidelines for the awarding of development leaves. The Texas legislature suggests these programs be designed to assist teaching and other academic professionals to develop and pursue worthy academic research that requires significant time and the absence of distractions. Faculty Development Leaves are subject to the laws of the State of Texas and to Texas A&M University System policies and regulations. System Policy 12.99.01 or A&M-Commerce Procedure 12.99.01.R0.01.

The Faculty Development Leave program at Texas A&M University-Commerce is designed to assist our professionals in teaching and other academic areas to develop and pursue worthy academic study, research, writing, field observation, or other suitable purposes that require significant time without interference. Faculty Development Laws are subject to the laws of the State of Texas and to the regulations and rules of the Texas A&M University System.

The Faculty Development Committee invites all full-time faculty members (1) whose full-time duties, as contractually specified, are teaching and/or research and (2) who have served as members of the faculty of A&M-Commerce for a minimum of two consecutive, full-time academic years, to apply for a Faculty Development Leave for the 2023-2024 academic year (fall semester at full pay, spring semester at full pay, or fall and spring semesters at half-pay). A copy of this Call for Proposals; an explanation of the Faculty Development Leave Criteria, Procedures, and Funding; the Faculty Development Leave Application Form; the Faculty Development Leave Policy; and the Faculty Development Leave Legal Agreement are available on this website.

Completed application packets must be submitted to the Provost Office, McDowell Business Administration Building, Room 280. Completed application packets must include (1) the Faculty Development Application Form (available from website); (2) an explanation of your Faculty Development Leave project (including an abstract, project description, timeline, and bibliographic or background sources); and (3) a current vita.

The deadline for submitting proposals to the Provost Office is December 1st at 4:30 p.m.

Questions about the proposal preparation and review process should be directed to the Faculty Development Leave Committee.
