Academic Distinction
Undergraduate students who have applied for graduation and have completed all degree requirements may be eligible for academic distinction. The university uses the Institutional GPA (GPA obtained from all courses taken exclusively at ETAMU) to determine academic distinction.
The levels of recognition and the grade point averages required for each are:
- Summa Cum Laude: 3.90 - 4.00
- Magna Cum Laude: 3.70 - 3.89
For the purposes of the commencement ceremony and program, the Institutional GPA from the prior semester will be used to determine academic distinction. If you are a student in the College of Innovation and Design and will be graduating in your first semester with ETAMU, you will not qualify for academic distinction in time for the ceremony since you will not have an ETAMU GPA from a prior semester yet.
Once final grades have officially been posted, the Institutional GPA for the current semester will be recalculated. This is the Institutional GPA and corresponding distinction that will be recorded on diplomas and permanent academic records. For additional information, please visit Academic Distinction and Honors.
