Want to become a consultant in the Writing Center?

Before undergraduate Writing Center consultants are hired, they must complete ENG 495: Writing Center Internship & Practicum, our consultant-training course. The course blends seminar-style discussion of writing center theory, practice, and research with internship hours as a consultant in the A&M-Commerce Writing Center. Any consultants hired by the Writing Center for the spring semester will have successfully completed this course. The course is held in the fall semester. Check this website or the Writing Center in the early part of the Spring 2023 semester for the application deadline for Fall 2023.

A piece of advice: Applicants who understand what the A&M Commerce Writing Center does will naturally create stronger applications. Read about us on our websiteBetter yet — book a session to ask us questions and/or for feedback on your Letter of Interest.

To apply this Spring for ENG 495, send these materials to writingcenter@tamuc.edu:

-Letter of Interest: Address your interest and experience in learning and working in a community of writers. If you’ve visited the A&M-Commerce Writing Center, or visited or worked in any other writing center, describe the experience

-Resume

-Sample of academic writing: Written recently, in the last year or so

-Recommendation: Ask a professor to email a quick/short paragraph in support of your application for ENG 495 (share this flyer or our website with them for context)

Note: Successful applicants will be notified and enrolled in ENG 495 by the professor, Dr. Kelin Loe

Graduate Students

There is a Writing Center Internship & Practicum course offered regularly at the graduate level. Iit is required if you would like to become a consultant in our Writing Center. No application is required to register for the graduate course.
