Schedule
9 hours a week
- Approximately 3 hours/week will be dedicated to consultations and 6 hours/week to training (meetings, readings, discussions, writing, and observations)
- MANDATORY: Wednesdays, 5-7:30, all-intern meeting. The other 6.5 hours can be worked on Sundays and Fridays during business hours, and Monday-Thursday during business and evenings.
Training
Interns receive training in the following:
- Writing peer tutoring practices
- Written and oral communication
- Research in literacy studies, writing center studies and belonging
- Qualitative research (interviewing, surveys, etc.)
- Academic writing guidelines and practices
- Office administration & optional projects: design, archival work, social media and Excel tasks
Result
Those who successfully complete the internship can join the Writing Center staff in the Spring. Writing Center staff work for a higher wage than interns. Depending on the schedule, they can choose to work as little as 4 hours/week or as much as 19 hours/week.
