The following is a list of answers to frequently asked questions by our transfer students. This information should help you as you plan your degree evaluation with your advisor. Attention to these policies will help ensure a prompt and timely graduation date for you as you complete your degree with us at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

1. Students must complete a minimum of 60 semester hours at Texas A&M University-Commerce, or another senior-level institution (a 4-year school). You may end up graduating with more than 120 semester hours and/or have to take extra elective courses to accomplish this.
2. Students must complete at least 36 semester hours at the advanced level (Courses numbered 300 or above). Twenty-four of these hours must be completed in residence at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
3. Extended university courses and correspondence courses do NOT count towards residency requirements.
4. Not all courses taken from a community college may transfer for core courses in your major. For example, a research methods courses taken at a community college or another university may not necessarily substitute for our Sociology 331: Introduction to Social Research class. This also applies to some Criminal Justice courses taken at community colleges. Crime in America is NOT the equivalent of our CJ 330: Crime and Criminology course. See your advisor about acceptable substitutions. Save the syllabi from the course you've taken at the other school for reference, also.
5. Some courses from community colleges do not automatically transfer to A&M-Commerce, like PE classes. Check with your advisor and they will submit the necessary paperwork to have these courses counted toward your university studies requirements.
6. Some of our courses have historically been offered during the evening (Soc 485: Senior Seminar is one example). If you work or have children, please be prepared to make the necessary arrangements to fit the course(s) into your schedule. There are no other substitutions for these core requirements.
