Student Involvement

Lecture Series:

From September 18, 2013, to November 5, 2014, the East Texas War and Memory Project conducted seven live interview sessions on the TAMU-C campus. This Lecture Series provided students, teachers, and visitors to the TAMU-C campus with the opportunity to experience the type of interviews ETWMP interns conducted. After a brief introduction, one of the Project interns interviewed the visiting lecturer in order to extrapolate a small portion of the lecturer’s experience with the effects of war. Near the end of the lecture, attendees were invited to ask questions. Guest included Major General Chris Adams, Private First Class Arlen Butler, Sergeant Terry Blose, Karl Clauss, Captain Jim Stinnett, Corporal Volley Ray “Doc” Dooley, and Ruth Ann White.

Academic Presentations and Publications:

Many interns have used project interviews in research projects, some of which have been presented at academic conferences across the region. Since Fall 2012, interns have presented research at the East Texas Historical Association, the Southwest Popular Culture Conference, the Texas Oral History Conference, the National Popular Culture Conference, and the Society of Southwest Archivists Conference. In addition, student research have been featured in the Sound Historian and Archival Outlook, as well as Texas A&M University-Commerce’s Pride Online, the Greenville, Texas, Herald Banner, and radio station 88.9 KETR’s website.
