Welcome to the website for the Institute for Competency-Based Education! Created in 2015 through exceptional item funding from the Texas legislature, we are a collaboratory for innovation focused on experimentation and research through key partnerships to advance the understanding of competency-based education (CBE) and to support the development and growth of CBE programs on the TAMU-C campus, across the state, and nationwide.

Innovation is at the heart of the mission of TAMU-C, as is accessible, affordable, personal education for diverse learners. Not coincidentally, these are all at the heart of CBE, and this Institute aspires to become not only a point of convergence for these practices on campus, but across Texas, the United States, and beyond as well.  Engaging in data-driven, evidence-based research, we hope to contribute to the ever-expanding array of educational opportunities for the increasing number of post-traditional students seeking degrees.

We also are engaging with institutions across Texas in the development of new CBE programs to support Texas’ higher education plan, 60x30TX. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance in the creation and implementation of a program or to explore potential research collaborations.
