Scholarships

The Department of Mathematics is pleased to offer several scholarships to qualified students.  The amounts vary from about $300 to $3,000. Please go to your MyLeo, in the left panel choose "Apply for Scholarships", search mathematics to accesses the available scholarship applications. Graduate Students may choose Bill, Gloria and James Aslan Graduate Student Endowment; Dennis P Grantham Graduate Scholarship; and  Rachel Lafferty Mathematics Scholarship. The application is taken from about January 15 to March 15 each year.  More information about graduate student financial support found here.

Scholarships

Bill, Gloria & James Aslan Endowment:

  • All undergraduate students majoring in mathematics are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Preference will be given to graduate students.
  • Students must have a total GPA of 3.0 or better in order to apply for and maintain this scholarship. 
  • Recipients shall provide 2 letters of reference.
  • The scholarship recipient(s) will be selected by a departmental faculty scholarship committee from the Mathematics department.
  • Scholarship amounts will be at the discretion of the scholarship committee. All unawarded funds will be returned to the corpus on an annual basis. Scholarships may be awarded without regard to the student's classification level or semester (i.e. Summer I, Summer II, Fall, and Spring).
  • Recipients are encouraged to send the donor a thank you note.

Bill, Gloria & James Aslan Graduate student Endowment:

  • Recipient(s) should be pursuing a graduate degree in Mathematics.
  • Preference will be given to out of state and international students.
  • Applicant shall provide two (2) letters of reference.
  • The scholarship recipient(s) will be selected by a departmental faculty scholarship committee from the Mathematics Department, with the department head as a member of this committee.
  • Recipient(s) are encouraged to send the donor a thank you letter.

Bub Taylor Math Endowment:

  • Recipients shall be math majors.
  • Classification freshman or sophomore.
  • Recipients shall provide 2 letters of reference.

  • Please describe your goal. How will being a math major help you achieve these goals?

Cecil B. Wright Scholarship Endowment:

  • Recipients shall be students majoring in mathematics.
  • Classification Junior or Senior.
  • Recipients shall provide 2 letters of reference.

  • Please describe your goal. How will being a math major help you achieve these goals?

Dale & Betty Bedgood Scholarship in Mathematics:

  • Recipients shall be undergraduate mathematics majors currently enrolled in Calculus II or a more advanced mathematics course.
  • Recipients shall provide 2 letters of reference.

Dennis Grantham Graduate Math Endowment:

  • Recipients shall be graduate students majoring in mathematics.
  • Recipients shall provide 2 letters of reference.

Hoyle & Ann Oglesby Julian Math Endowment:

  • Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate.
  • Recipient shall be a Math major.
  • Recipients shall provide 2 letters of reference.
  • Scholarship will be renewable by semester.
  • Scholarship committee from the math department will select recipient.

John & Elaine Yznaga Mathematics Endowment:

  • Recipients shall be majoring in mathematics.
  • Classification must be incoming freshman.
  • Recipients shall provide 2 letters of reference.
  • Criteria shall be determined and update appropriately by the math department scholarship committee.

Northeast Texas Endowment:

  • Recipients shall be a transfer from Northeast Texas Community College.
  • Students majoring in mathematics shall be given preference.
  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.5.
  • Recipients shall provide 2 letters of reference.
  • This scholarship renewable while recipient is an undergraduate.
  • Scholarship renewable upon submission of updated application.

Rachel Lafferty Mathematics Endowment:

  • Recipients shall be deserving mathematics students as determined by Mathematics scholarship committee.

Dr. Chuck & Donna Holt Math Educator Endowment:

  • Recipients shall be math major with 7-12 teacher certification
  • Recipients shall be Junior or Senior level students pursuing a career as a math educator

* Additional steps required of Applicant to Apply *

  • Two letters of recommendations from former instructors
  • Please submit an essay on why you want to become a math educator and the traits that you have to be a math educator.
