Texas Counseling Association Conference
2010
The 2010 Texas Counseling Association annual conference was held in Austin, TX on November 10-13. Our department was an exhibitor, and our faculty and doctoral students stayed busy promoting our doctoral program and answering questions from prospective students.
A number of our current students and recent graduates presented at the conference, including doctoral students Marcus Chidozie, Lisa Couch, and Bobbie Jacobs, and 2009 graduates Dr. Ruth Whitely and Master’s graduate Vickie Wesley.
We’re also very proud of doctoral student Jodie Elder, who received TCA’s Outstanding Graduate Student award. Jodie served as one of the co-coordinators of last year’s TCA conference in Dallas.

2009
On November 11-14, 2009, 2,300 graduate students, counselors and counselor educators came to Dallas to attend the Texas Counseling Association (TCA) annual conference. The Department of Counseling at Texas A&M-Commerce was well represented at the conference with one of our doctoral students, Jodie Elder, serving as co-coordinator for the event and numerous students and faculty serving as chairs of committees for the conference. Among the faculty, Linda Ball served as the Director of Programs, Sam Bore served as the Special Events chair and Chris Simpson served as co-chair of Audio-Visual Facilities. In addition, the following doctoral students chaired committees at the conference: Ruth Whitely (Director of Social Services), Trigg Even (Public Relations Chair), Janet Dougherty (President's Reception/Awards Chair), Vickie Sutherland (Program Facilitator Chair), Dequetta Sanders (Conference 101 Chair), Dean Aslinia (Audio-Visual Facilities Co-Chair), Jamaica Powell (Signs Chair), Fred Fuentes (Decorations Chair), Sandy Stillo (Entertainment Chair), and Leigh Tinney Kirby Protocol Chair). We are very proud of the contributions these students and faculty made to such an important event.
Our department was one of the exhibitors at the conference, which gave faculty and doctoral students opportunities to promote our doctoral program and to meet prospective doctoral students face to face to answer questions they had about our program.
In addition, we are very proud of Dr. Richard Lampe, who received the Dr. William E. Truax Founders Award, the highest award for excellence given by the Texas Counseling Association. Its purpose is "To recognize the significant contributions of an individual TCA member who has demonstrated over a long period of time a global vision and significant impact on the counseling profession on a national, regional and/or statewide basis".
