Elsevier Journal Access
We may lose access to Elsevier journals soon. Waters Library acquires our contract for Elsevier (Science Direct) journals through the Texas A&M System. The A&M System has joined with the Texas Library Coalition for United Action (TLCUA), which includes over 43 institutions across the state.
The Coalition formed specifically to negotiate with Elsevier for reduced costs and improved conditions of publishing, especially ownership by faculty of their scholarly work. The contract for the A&M System libraries, along with half the Coalition, ended in December 2020. Access has been extended while negotiations continue.
The remaining members of the Coalition have contracts that will expire on December 31, 2021 and they expressed full support for the libraries that may lose access at the end of this extension. They were firm in their commitment to prioritize our requests for Elsevier content through InterLibrary Loan and other processes. This will ensure prompt delivery of Elsevier (Science Direct) articles if we lose access to Elsevier content in the future.
