Sport & Recreation Management

Thank you for your interest in our Master of Science in Health, Kinesiology, & Sport Studies with a concentration in Sport and Recreation Management.

The Sport and Recreation Management concentration is a practical and research-based master's program designed for individuals who currently work, or are interested in pursuing a career, in the sport and recreation industry.  The master's program in Sport and Recreation Management has two options:  thesis and non-thesis (internship).

The thesis option is a research-intensive track which is designed to prepare students interested in the academic and research side of the sport industry as well as individuals interested in possibly furthering their education in a doctoral program.

The non-thesis option is a professional track, which requires an internship in sport and/or recreation.  The internship option gives stuents real-world experience and will prepare individuals interested in a career in the sport and recreation industry.  Possible career areas include the following:

  • community recreation
  • campus recreation
  • intercollegiate athletics
  • youth sport
  • action sport
  • professional sport
  • specialty sport/recreation (e.g. golf course management)

The majority of coursework can be completed online to be more accessible to the working professional.  Students in this program will receive professional training and development in the areas of:

  • Program Administration
  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Law & Governance
  • Facilities
  • Research Methods
  • Social Issues in Sport
