HUNT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Law Enforcement Training Academy is under current contract and licensure with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) to provide instruction to new law enforcement cadets and to prepare them to take the Texas Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) licensing exam.

FREQUENCY OF CLASSES AND TUITION

The Texas Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) is an evening academy, with classes Monday-Thursday evenings from 6 pm-10 pm and every other Saturday usually from 8 am-5 pm.

The normal duration of the Texas BPOC Academy from the Orientation Day until Graduation is approximately 8 months.

The total tuition for the Texas BPOC Academy is $2500.00; this cost covers tuition, books, and most materials, etc.

TO QUALIFY FOR ADMISSION INTO THE HCSO BPOC ACADEMY, YOU MUST:

Citizenship Requirement:

  • Be a United States Citizen

Education Requirement:

  • Have a high school diploma [or]
  • Have a high school equivalency certificate [or]
  • Have an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States after at least 24 months of active duty service

Age Requirement:

  • Be 21 years of age [or]
  • Be 18 years of age with an Associate’s Degree or with 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university [or]
  • Have received an Honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States after at least 24 months of active service

Criminal History Requirement:

  • Have never been convicted of an offense to include court-ordered community supervision or probation above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor [or]
  • Have never been convicted of any Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years

Medical Requirement:

  • Have been examined by a physician and a psychologist and found to be free of defect (examinations done with our L-2 & L-3 forms)
  • Meningitis Shot Record
    • Students who are (under) 22 years of age, AND
    • Attending face-to-face classes with A&M-Commerce
    • The vaccination must be within the previous 5-years and/or administered a minimum of 10-days before the first face-to-face class meeting with A&M-Commerce
    • Records are uploaded via myLeo Student Resources portal

Once you have accessed the website, enter the service code: 11F1NT. Then select the location and time to have your fingerprints taken. This is part of the background investigation. THE COST IS $13.00

  • AFTER the Fingerprints and C-1 have been completed and the academy coordinator receives the results from the Fingerprint service [and]
  • The academy coordinator emails you to inform you to continue to the next step and reserve your seat in the class!
