Option II non thesis with Initial Certification

The Department of Psychology and Special Education offers two degrees in Special Education:  the Master's of Education and the Master's of Science.  Programs of graduate work may be planned according to the interests of the student and to meet the degree requirements.

Applicants for the MS in Special Education/option II with initial certification must also apply for the PBTC (Post Baccalaureate Teacher/Alternative Certification program).  It requires students to complete a minimum of two (2) non-alternative certification courses, maintain a 3.0 or above graduate GPA prior to applying for the PBTC program.  Once the graduate courses are completed, please complete and submit the ACP application.  There is an additional $50 application fee required for the ACP application.

Admission Consideration Requirements for All Students

  • Apply Texas Application
  • Application fee:  $50 domestic student 
  • All official transcripts - Bachelor's degree, including all transcripts used towards bachelor's degree.  Any master's degree transcript or transcripts with graduate coursework (if applicable).
  • Resume(Vita)
  • Statement of Goals:  1-2 pages, up to 500 words.  
    Address career objectives and how the master's degree
    will help you meet those goals.

  • 3 letters of recommendation, must be signed and no older than 1 year
  • Interview
  • One of the following:

    1. Official General Test GRE scores or
    2. An awarded bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with an overall GPA of at least a 3.25 or
    3. Graduate overall GPA of 3.25 or higher from A&M-Commerce or another regionally accredited institution.
