Not sure about pursuing the full Master's in Political Science? No problem. You can pursue your 18sch as a "non-degree" student without having to pursue a full graduate degree.

Points to keep in mind:
· Non-degree students are not eligible for financial aid
· International students may not be eligible for non-degree status
· You may be interested in the pursuing the Master's in Political Science - History track which ensures you earn 18sch in graduate History courses and 18sch in graduate Political Science courses.
· Steer your studies! The Department of Political Science offers a 12sch Graduate Certificate in Holocaust Studies. You may want to aim 12sch of your 18sch towards the graduate certificate to be able to list a Graduate Certificate in Holocaust Studies on your CV/Resume and University Transcripts
If you change your mind later and would like to pursue the full Master's in Political Science, only four courses (12 credit hours) of your "nondegree" coursework can be transferred into the program later. Be sure to apply for the Master's in Political Science before you complete your fourth course (12th credit hour) as a "nondegree" student.

DO I WANT THE THESIS OR NON-THESIS OPTION?
You do not need to decide right away whether or not you want to pursue the thesis or non-thesis option. You can make that decision after starting the program and working with your Faculty Advisor. Generally speaking, a thesis is preferred if you intend to pursue a Ph.D.
MA/MS, WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
The MA (Master of Arts) and the MS (Master of Science) differ in a foreign language requirement. To pursue an MA, you need to meet one of the following conditions:
· Successful Completion of 12 undergraduate semester credit hours (approximately four courses) of a foreign language.
· Completion of 6 graduate semester credit hours (approximately two courses) of a foreign language.
· Demonstrate through a proficiency test in a foreign language. Contact the Department of Literature and Languages.
· Completion of 3 semester hours above elementary courses if the student presents 3 or 4 years of high school credit. Contact Graduate.School@tamuc.edu with questions.
· American Sign Language (ASL) is considered an acceptable foreign language. Students should consult with departmental Director of Graduate School regarding this requirement. Contact Graduate.School@tamuc.edu with questions.
The program is available via face-to-face courses that meet on our main campus in Commerce, TX. Each face-to-face course typically meets one day a week in the evenings during the Monday-Thursday timeframe. Those interested in pursuing graduate level History courses in conjunction with their degree may have face-to-face History course options on our main campus in Commerce, TX and on occasion at our extended University facilities in both downtown Dallas and the Metroplex Center in Mesquite.
We occasionally offer online courses. Up to 49% of the degree is allowed to be completed through online coursework.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM?
You may finish in two years, if you follow the plan of study. The plan of study guarantees that all necessary courses for graduation will be offered over the two year period. You may be able to speed up the time to graduation significantly by taking more than two courses every semester. Completion in less than two years is possible but not guaranteed.
HOW LONG ARE SEMESTERS?
Fall and Spring - Our fall and spring semesters are 16 weeks long. Occasionally we offer flex-term courses in the fall and spring semesters that start four weeks later than the usual 16-week start date. Flex-term courses are 12 weeks long.
Summer - Summer is split into two terms, Summer I and Summer II, each five weeks long.
Minis - On occasion we offer mini-terms (August, May, and December) that are three weeks long.
